Life insurance policies contain conditions and exclusions that affect whether a claim will be paid. Common exclusions include suicide or self-inflicted injury, typically within the first 12 months of the policy; death resulting from undisclosed pre-existing medical conditions; and participation in certain high-risk activities unless declared and accepted by the insurer.
You are required to answer all medical and lifestyle questions honestly and with reasonable care at the time of application. Failure to disclose relevant information – including pre-existing medical conditions, smoking status, or hazardous occupations – may result in a claim being declined or your policy being voided.
A Whole of Life policy provides cover for the rest of your life — there is no fixed term. A benefit will be paid on death or diagnosis of a terminal illness that meets the policy definition, regardless of when this occurs, provided premiums are kept up to date. If you stop paying premiums, your policy may lapse and cover will cease. No refund of premiums is payable if the policy lapses or is cancelled.
You have the right to cancel your policy within 30 days of receiving your policy documents. After this period, cancellation terms and any applicable charges will be set out in your policy documentation. Please refer to document pack pre and post application.
