Your Policy, Your Protection

Nominate a Trusted Contact Person

A simple step that can make a real difference. Nominating someone you trust means we can reach out to them if we ever have a concern about your wellbeing or need to confirm your details.

What Is a Trusted Contact Person?

Someone to call on – if we ever need to

It’s a name and number we keep on file – someone we can reach out to in specific situations where we’re having difficulty getting in touch with you, or where we have a concern about your wellbeing.

Life can throw unexpected things at all of us – illness, bereavement, financial stress, or simply a change in circumstances. In those moments, having someone we know you trust gives us a way to make sure you’re supported rather than left without cover or missing something important about your policy.

At Peopl, we’re part of the Credit Union family – and that means looking out for people is in our DNA. The Trusted Contact Person option is a reflection of that

When might we contact your TCP?

We can only contact your Trusted Contact Person in three specific scenarios:

We Cant Reach You

If we need to contact you about your policy and we’re having difficulty getting through, we may contact your TCP to help confirm your details.

We have a concern

If we have a concern about possible financial abuse or your circumstances, a TCP gives us a trusted point of contact.

Health or wellbeing

If we need to confirm details of your health status or whether you have a legal guardian or representative in place.

Important to Know

What your TCP can – and cannot – do

Your Trusted Contact Person is exactly that: a contact. Nominating someone gives us permission to speak with them in very specific circumstances. It does not give them any authority over your policy or your financial affairs.

What we can discuss with your TCP

  • Confirming or updating your contact information
  • Your general health and status if relevant
  • Whether you have a legal guardian, executor or trustee in place
  • Our concern about possible financial abuse – so they can help

What your TCP cannot do

  • Make changes to your policy
  • Cancel or renew your cover
  • Access your policy details
  • Act as your legal or financial representitative
  • Make decisions on your behalf

How to register a TCP

Nominating your Trusted Contact Person

It only takes a few minutes. You can register a TCP at any time – when you take out a policy, at renewal or any time inbetween. You can also update  or remove your TCP at any time by getting in touch with us.

  1. Choose who you would like to nominate

This should be someone you trust and who knows you well – a family member, close friend, or trusted person in your life. They should be 18 or over. Make sure they’re happy to be nominated before you give us their details.

  2. Contact us to register

Call us on 0818 121 121 (Mon–Fri, 9am–5:30pm) or email us at insurance@peopl.ie with your name, policy number, and the name and contact number of your TCP.

  3. We’ll confrim consent with both of you

We’ll need written consent from you, and written confirmation from your TCP that they’re happy to be contacted and for us to retain their details. We’ll walk you through this – it’s straightforward.

  4. It’s recorded on your policy

Once confirmed, your TCP’s details are recorded securely on your policy. You can update or remove them at any time just by contacting us.

A note on consent

Under the Consumer Protection Code 2025, we need written consent from both you and your nominated TCP before we can record their details. Your TCP’s name and contact information will only ever be used in the specific circumstances described above – never for marketing or any other purpose.

Regulatory Context

Why we offer this

The Trusted Contact Person option is part of Peopl’s commitment to looking after our customers – including those who may be in vulnerable circumstances. It’s also a requirement under the Central Bank of Ireland’s Consumer Protection Code 2025. .

Consumer Protection Code 2025 – Regulation 36

The CPC 2025 (SI No. 81 of 2025) introduced the Trusted Contact Person requirement for regulated financial services firms in Ireland. It applies to all personal consumers and is designed to provide an additional layer of protection for people who may be at risk of financial abuse or who need extra support in their dealings with financial services providers.

“A regulated entity shall, at the request of a personal consumer, record the name and contact information of an individual (referred to as a ‘trusted contact person’) who the consumer has nominated and agreed that the regulated entity may contact in circumstances where the regulated entity has a concern about possible financial abuse of the personal consumer…”  – Central Bank of Ireland, Consumer Protection Code 2025, Part 2, Regulation 36

Do I haveto nominate a Trusted Contact Person

No. Nominating a TCP is entirely optional. It’s there as a safety net if you want it – we will never pressure you to nominate someone, and it makes no difference to your cover whether you do or not.

Who can I nominate as my TCP?

Anyone you trust who is aged 18 or over – a family member, close friend, neighbour, or someone else in your life. The most important things are that you trust them and that they’re happy to be contacted by us in the circumstances described above. You should speak to them before giving us their details.

Will my TCP be able to access my policy or make changes?

No. Your TCP has no authority over your policy whatsoever. They cannot view your policy details, make changes, cancel cover, or act on your behalf in any financial or legal capacity. Their role is purely as a contact person in specific, limited circumstances.

What if I want to change or remove my TCP?

You can update or remove your TCP at any time by contacting us on 0818 121 121 or emailing insurance@peopl.ie. There’s no restriction on how often you can do this.

Will my TCP’s information be shared with anyone else?

No. Your TCP’s name and contact details are held securely and used only in the specific circumstances set out under CPC 2025 Regulation 36. They will never be used for marketing, shared with third parties, or used for any other purpose.

I’m already a Peopl customer. Can I add a TCP to my existing policy?

Absolutely. You don’t need to wait until renewal. Just get in touch with us at any time and we’ll add your TCP to your policy file. It takes just a few minutes.
