Life insurance policies contain conditions and exclusions that affect whether a claim will be paid. Common exclusions include suicide or self-inflicted injury, typically within the first 12 months of the policy; death resulting from undisclosed pre-existing medical conditions; and participation in certain high-risk activities unless declared and accepted by the insurer.
You are required to answer all medical and lifestyle questions honestly and with reasonable care at the time of application. Failure to disclose relevant information - including pre-existing medical conditions, smoking status, or hazardous occupations - may result in a claim being declined or your policy being voided.
Your policy will only pay out during the term (Duration of cover) you select. If you outlive your term life or mortgage protection policy, no benefit is payable. If you are paying an annual or monthly premium, this money is used to purchase cover for a given time period, no refund of premium is payable on expiry of that cover period. Cover is not guaranteed to be renewed or available at the same premium at the end of any term.
You have the right to cancel your policy within 30 days of receiving your policy documents. After this period, cancellation terms and any applicable charges will be set out in your policy documentation. Please refer to document pack pre and post application.
